New Guernsey Coin Issues

60th Anniversary of the Liberation – 9th May 1945

The States Treasury is pleased to announce the issue of Guernsey coins struck by the Royal Mint to commemorate the 60th Anniversary of the Liberation.

The reverse of each coin features a scene from the Liberation designed by Mike Guilfoyle and includes the words:

‘60th Anniversary of Liberation – 9th May 1945’
“…and our dear Channel Islands are also to be freed today”.

Also depicted is the official 60th Anniversary logo commemorating the end of World War II.

The obverse of each coin depicts the popular portrait of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Ian Rank-Broadley and is dated 2005.

There are six coins available in the issue: a £5 brilliant uncirculated base metal, £5 silver proof, a £5 gold proof, a £25 gold proof and both a £10 silver proof and £10 gold proof coin (each weighing 5 ounces).

60th Anniversary of the End of World War II – 8th May 1945

The States Treasury also announces the issue of Guernsey coins struck by the Royal Mint to commemorate the 60th Anniversary of the end of World War II.

The reverse of each coin features a scene with King George VI and Winston Churchill at Buckingham Palace on VE Day, designed by Mike Guilfoyle it includes the words:

‘End of World War II - 60th Anniversary’

The official 60th Anniversary logo is also depicted.

The obverse of each coin depicts the popular portrait of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Ian Rank-Broadley and is dated 2005.

The coins are available in five different options; a £5 brilliant uncirculated base metal, £5 silver proof, a £5 gold proof, a £25 gold proof and a five ounce £10 silver proof.

Note:
The Guernsey Post Office in Smith Street, St Peter Port will be open on Liberation day for one hour between 12 o’clock midday and 1pm specifically for the sale of both the £5 brilliant uncirculated base metal coins and the Liberation stamps issued by Guernseypost.
