Planning

The Planning Section of the Environment Department is responsible for protecting, enhancing and facilitating the sustainable development of the physical environment of Guernsey.

Our aim is to preserve and promote diversity by achieving quality in design and implementation of development which respects Guernsey’s historic, architectural and archaeological heritage and makes a positive contribution to the built environment.

We strive to maintain a balance between competing demands for economic growth and social development whilst taking full account of environmental integrity. This includes the protection and enhancement of the natural beauty and amenity of Guernsey’s coasts, cliffs, countryside and other open spaces.

Above all, we ensure that development is carried out in a sustainable, energy-efficient manner and in such a way that achieves a safe and healthy living and working environment for the people of Guernsey.
