Building Control

Building Control

The primary function of the Section is to process and determine applications and inspect building works in accordance with the requirements of the current Guernsey Building Law and Regulations.

One of our key objectives is to advise the States on matters relating to the Building Regulations and the revision of those regulations to follow best practice in building in accordance with the social, economic and energy use objectives of the States.

The processing of Building Regulation applications, including the carrying out of site inspections in accordance with the Guernsey Building Regulations, makes up the majority of our work, but we also provide advice to applicants and the general public.

In terms of compliance, we investigate and take enforcement action in relation to contraventions of the Building Regulations as enacted under the Land Planning and Development (Guernsey) Law 2005 (and related Ordinances).

Part of our function involves undertaking regular inspections and reporting to the Royal Court on the continued adequacy and operation of premises licensed as Salle Publiques (public buildings) and advice to Constables on dangerous structures and the installation of steam boilers/bread ovens.
