Office of Environmental Health and Pollution Regulation

Protection of public health, ecosystems and the environment from potentially polluting activities is an important issue in Guernsey and this is the primary role of the independent Director of Environmental Health and Pollution Regulation.

The Director is appointed by the Policy Council to undertake the requirements of the Environmental Pollution (Guernsey) Law 2004 and to ensure that pollution is prevented or the risk minimized to acceptable levels.

The Law provides for prescribed operations to be licensed and, to date, the States of Deliberation has approved legislation to regulate waste operations in the island. Further parts of the Law will be implemented in due course.
