Public Services Department publishes Bellegreve incident report
The Public Services Department has produced and published a written report reviewing the sewage flooding incident, in response to a request from the Scrutiny Committee.
The Scrutiny Committee Chairman, Deputy Barry Brehaut, said: “This is a good example of government working more effectively, ensuring that lessons are learnt from when things go wrong and being open to public scrutiny. The Committee hopes that more departments will operate in this way.”

Scrutiny publishes "The Milk Monitor Report"
The Committee has published its monitoring report following up on the implementation of the 2006 Scrutiny Review of Milk Distribution Proposals. The Report makes a supplementary recommendation to the Commerce and Employment Department to produce more information to States Members when the subject of milk distribution returns to the States in the October debate. This has already been accepted by the Department and The Milk Monitor Report appends a briefing paper circulated by the Department to all States Members.

The Committee has recently welcomed a new Chief Officer for the Parliamentary Committees, Natasha Keys, who the Scrutiny Committee now shares with the Public Accounts Committee and States Assembly and Constitution Committee.
Scrutiny investigates sewage incident
The Committee has requested the publication of a written report to answer public concerns about why and how the recent failure of Belle Greve pumping station occured and how it has been dealt with.

Scrutiny investigates vandalism
The Committee has announced its first public Review will be examining the causes and effects of vandalism or criminal damage.
Deputy Barry Brehaut, Scrutiny Chairman, states: “It is clear even in these very early stages of planning a Review that the issue is complex and there will be no easy solutions. Our initial perception is that there is a lot of good work being done in tackling vandalism but, as far as we know, there has never been a review locally of how effective these measures are and particularly how efforts are coordinated.”

Following the recent elections, former Scrutiny Member Deputy Barry Brehaut returns to the Committee as its new Chairman.
The new Committee had its first meeting on Wednesday 14th May, at which it elected Deputy Matt Fallaize as its Vice-Chairman.

Congratulations to those elected on 23rd April! The Committee will be sending an information leaflet "About Scrutiny" to all those elected to serve as States Members in the next term.
The new membership of the Committee will be decided by Thursday 8th May. The Committee will shortly be saying a sad farewell to its Chair, Deputy Jean Pritchard, who is not standing for re-election.

Presentation slides and an action sheet have now been published on this site from the Committee's meeting with the Social Policy Group on 25th January.
The Commitee has published its comments on the Policy Council's States Report entitled "Government Business Plan - Preparing for the New States Term 2008-2012", Billet d'Etat III 2008.
The Committee has been monitoring the development of social policy and met with the Social Policy Group on 25th January for an update on progress.
Scrutiny has got clarification on the proposals for authorisation of a £9.5million project for refurbishment of the Alderney Commercial Quay, to be discussed by the States this month. The Scrutiny questions and answers provided are published on this website.
The Committee's 2007 performance report "Strengthening Accountability" is published on Friday 18th January 2008. Copies are available from Sir Charles Frossard House reception or from the Scrutiny office (tel: 717000), or can be downloaded from this website.
The Committee has published its follow-up Monitoring Report on Complaints Policies and Appeals Procedures, which is being discussed by the States at its January meeting.
The "Your Say" page on this website and includes a downloadable form showing the criteria used by the Committee in determining subjects suitable for Scrutiny. Public involvement in the scrutiny process is very important to the Committee and we will be continuing to develop this area.
