Information relating to the 1986 legislation

All Registrations that were made under the Data Protection (Bailiwick of Guernsey) Law, 1986 have now expired.

All  Notifications and renewals must be now be made under the Data Protection (Bailiwick of Guernsey) Law, 2001.

During the first transitional period, personal data that existed within computer systems prior to August 2002 were subject to exemptions which meant that the full provisions of the 2001 legislation did not apply.

Those exemptions ceased at the end of July 2005, accordingly all personal data in computer systenms is now fully subject to the 2002 legislation.

Certain exemptions will continue to apply to manual data that was in existence prior to August 2002 until the end of the second transitional persiod on 24th October 2007.
